Do your own black & white film developing and printing

We have two black & white darkrooms for hire:
Original darkroom, for use by 1 or 2 people at a time:

• $20.00 per hour, including chemicals
• $15.00/hour, student discount or frequent user rate.

We also  have a larger darkroom, adjoining our studio, which can be used by small groups. This darkroom has ventilation suitable for print toning and alternative printing processes. Hire rate by negotiation.

The darkrooms will be set up for you to use, the chemicals mixed and put out in trays. We'll show you how the enlargers operate but basic darkroom experience is assumed. Usually, someone skilled in darkroom use will be available during regular daytime hours to offer help and advice as needed.

The darkrooms include several professional quality enlargers and lenses, which can handle 35mm, medium-format and 4" x 5" film. Printmaking up to 12"x16" (30x40cm) is routine. Printing on larger paper sizes are possible in small quantities.

There is also provision for developing your own conventional 35mm, medium format and 4"x5" film. Standard chemicals are provided for this, but you may wish to use your own developers.

Once you've used the darkroom and become familiar with it, and we're confident that you know what you're doing and can use the room safely, it can be available for use after hours.
